Second National Title for Trek Rider
28-03-2008
Trek Supported Rider, Katrin Van Der Spiegel, backed up her win at last years Australian Solo 24 Hour Champs, with another impressive victory.
With near perfect conditions at Majura Pines State Forest in Canbera over this Easter Long Weekend, Katrin Van Der Spiegel, also sponsored by Clarence Street Cyclery, fronted up to defend her National Jersey in the Australian 24 Hour Solo Championships. And with a spot at the World Champs up for grabs, the competition was going to be fierce.
With consistent riding, superb support from her crew, and no mechanicals from either of her Trek Top Fuel carbon fibre mountain bikes, Katrin was able to finish off the 24 hours with an outstanding 38 laps, 3 laps ahead of her closest rival, Alexandra Kiendl from Germany. That’s over 325km of continuous riding on a track no wider than 3 feet.
Katrin will take the winners prize of a return airfare and entry to the World 24 Hours of Adrenaline in Alberta, Canada where she will be trying to better her last effort of 4th at the Worlds 2 years ago.
We wish her the best of luck in training over the next few months, and a great ride in July.
